Rosco Roman (Rhodes Scholar, 2008), together with Leanne Johansson (Mandela Rhodes Scholar 2007) have inititated a project which forms part of an anti-xenophobic campaign and intends to document the experiences of Zimbabwean migrants crossing the border into South Africa, through the mediums of film and photography. The project is based on a similar project undertaken along the US/Mexican border (see www.borderfilmproject.com) by Brett Huneycutt (Rhodes Scholar-2004), which was highly successful in gaining the attention of international media and generating debate around issues of migration and refugees. We intend to make the outputs of the project available to the public via a project website, interactive exhibitions, school programmes and a book.
