Information sessions at Western Cape

universities.

by Abby Loebenberg

The Rhodes Trust in South Africa is actively committed to broadening the applicant pool for the Scholarship and to promoting familiarity and limiting self-exclusion in the application process, particularly amongst groups who may not have heard of or been aware of the Scholarship in the past.

The current Scholars-elect who are based in Cape Town, under the direction of the general Secretariat, organized information sessions at three of the major Western Cape universities during April and May. Each of the sessions was attended by a representative of the Secretariat, a number of Rhodes Scholars and some of the current Scholars-elect.

The sessions facilitated general information regarding the work of the Trust, as well as a chance for the prospective applicants to hear about life in Oxford, the process of application and to query any aspect of the application rules and regulations. This was followed by light refreshments and an opportunity to chat informally with both the past and current Scholars.

The Scholars-elect would like to thank the 160-odd students that attended, and those who gave up their time to answer questions and support the effort.
